Assessment within the classroom is extremely important as it gives the teacher access to how the students are progressing throughout the unit of work. Teachers give students formal assessments while constantly performing informal assessments, verbal or non-verbal. Assessments are used both before and after a unit of work is taught to the students. Pre-assessments are important as it allows the teacher to grasp what the students know about the topic about to be taught and where major emphasis of teaching may need to be aimed at. Formal assessments are used after the unit of work is taught to the students and are used to give the teacher an idea of how effective his/her teaching was to the students.
Reflection is extremely important as it provides the students with feedback about the topic they are being taught. Feedback throughout teaching and after is important for students to be able to learn from mistakes and also be praised when doing the right thing.

Corey's Experience
Within my previous practicum, students were constantly given formal and informal assessments. Most students generally seemed to perform well in the formal assessments. When the students were completing informal assessments and answering general questions within the classroom, they did not put the required level of effort into their work. This therefore resulted in poorer results.

Differentiation
Not all students in the classroom are of the same intelligence levels. This is an extremely important factor when implementing assessments to students. Assessment tasks may need to be modified in order for an appropriate level based assessment to be performed. For example, when performing a spelling test, there may be different levels and amount of words within each group. Once a student gets all the words correct 2 week in a row, they may move up to more difficult words.
